When October rolls around I finally succumb to my boys pleading to get Halloween under way….after all “it’s October 1st, Mom!” We live in an amazing neighborhood for this holiday. Many of our neighbors go all out with decorations and kids from all over the city come to tick or treat. I think we gave out 1,500 pieces of candy last year. It is a little crazy and a lot of fun.
The biggest challenge of the night is keeping the kids from eating every s i n g l e piece of candy in the house. So this year I am thinking I’ll make lots and lots of popcorn, keeping cones of it around for the kiddos to eat. It was such a hit at Ridley’s birthday party and I think it will keep their hand busy and their bellies full of a slightly healthier snack. Don’t these cones in S&G Blackberry and Ebony’s Pattern look chic?

The cones above are filled with a mix of carmel and cheddar corn – better known as Chicago mix. I lined them with waxed paper to keep all that butter from soaking through the wrapping paper. I think I will skip the sweet and savory mix on Halloween and stick to good old lightly salted to compliment the bounty of sugar the kids will collect.
