By the time we reach my sister Cecily’s birthday at the end of May, we have had a lot of birthday cakes. A few years back we started looking for alternatives and last year we landed on pavlova. With her birthday falling right around Memorial Day each year, this mixed berry version is a lovely way to kick off the summer season and celebrate my colorful baby sister.

Pavlovas are pretty easy to make and they look so impressive and celebratory. You can make them with all kinds of fresh fruit, like passion fruit or lemon, there are chocolate versions, you can make one big one or adorable individual ones. My mom likes to make her’s with ice cream, which is pretty spectacular. This mixed berry pavlova was introduced to me by my friend Jessica and is by far my favorite. It is an Ina Garten recipe that comes together easily with a little work done in advance. I highly recommend making one this summer and knocking the socks off your lucky guests.
